The Lafayette City Council authorized the employment of two new Lafayette police patrolmen at the meeting held on July 3.

Jason Sells and Byron Butcher were hired as level seven patrolmen.

Levels of patrolmen result in the variations in pay. The levels range from 5-12.

Patrolman Keith Tillman's retirement is effective on July 16. With his retirement, Tillman's badge and service weapon will also be retired.

New positions within the city were authorized to be posted. The city will be taking applications for a water department heavy equipment operator and a part-time parks laborer.

Mayor Richard Driver will also be taking bids to repair the city pool.

The low bid of $116,809, submitted by Garber Builders of Gallatin, will re-roof the Lafayette water treatment plant building.

The landfill contract was also discussed and will continue to be until the city can attain more information.
