A man who was crossing Highway 52 in Lafayette was struck by a vehicle and killed on Nov. 20.

Richard Temple, 60, was believed to be returning to his residence after walking to a nearby convenience store.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Ashley Mercer, the incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m.

Temple had walked from his Wells Drive residence to the Marathon gas station, crossing Highway 52. As he was returning to his residence, a Ford F-150 that was traveling east toward Red Boiling Springs struck the man.

Mercer responded to the incident, as did officers from the Lafayette Police Department, the Macon County Sheriff's Department and personnel from the Macon County Rescue Squad.

A portion of Highway 52 was closed for approximately 90 minutes as traffic was rerouted.

A coroner came to the scene and pronounced him dead.

The driver of the vehicle was not charged and police ruled there was no fault in the incident.
