MONTEREY -- The Red Boiling Springs Junior High boys basketball squad claimed its first victory of the season on Monday evening, a 29-26 win at Burks Elementary School.

The Bulldogs dominated the first three quarters before holding off a late rally by the Panthers.

RBS (1-5) limited the host squad to two points in the second stanza, extending an 11-5 lead after one period of play to an 18-7 advantage by halftime.

Bulldog guard Chris Hackney scored seven of his team-high 10 points in the first half.

The margin was at 12 points (26-14) entering the fourth quarter.

Hudson Thompson scored all 12 of his squad's fourth-quarter points, but the Burks rally came up short.

Hudson Thompson poured in a game-high 16 points.

RBS guard Riley Thompson's backed Hackney's production with 7 points, followed by Brandon Rojo (5 points), Nathaniel Charron (4) and Colton Copas (3).

RBS faded in the second half of last Thursday evening's 41-17 loss to visiting Satterfield Middle School.

The Bulldogs trailed 10-6 after one period of play and 20-12 by halftime.

However, RBS scored just five points in the second half, mustering just one free throw in the fourth quarter.

Hackney scored 8 of his team-high 10 points in the first half. Rojo and Copas provided 3 and 2 points, respectively, and both Riley Thompson and Maxie Wilson made one free throw.

Cole Gregory and Brian Banks led the Yellow Jackets offensively with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Ten different players scored for Satterfield Middle.
