JAMESTOWN -- The Red Boiling Springs High girls basketball team had to settle for a runner-up finish in the Hall's Sgt. York Southeastern Christmas Tournament due to Saturday evening's 55-42 loss to Alcoa at York Institute.

The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the championship game thanks to a 50-33 win over Unaka and a 55-49, overtime victory over York Institute.

RBS (12-6) fell behind early on and couldn't overcome the deficit.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 13-9 after one period of play, and 30-21 at halftime as Destiny Haworth scored 9 of her game-high 21 points in the second stanza.

The margin was seven points (38-31) entering the final period.

Then, the Lady Tornadoes -- who reached the Class AA State Tournament last season -- made 11 of 13 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter.

Alcoa connected on 15 of 19 from the charity stripe in the contest, while RBS made just 10 of 19 free-throw attempts.

RBS sank four 3-pointers, with sophomore Liz Anderson accounting for three of those.

However, the Lady Bulldogs previously made nine 3-pointers in the quarterfinals and six in the semifinals.

Anderson and junior teammate Kennedy Fleming scored 13 points each.

RBS junior Haley Davis and sophomore Lindsay Randolph provided 7 points each, and freshman Claire Fleming contributed 2 points.

Breanna Ridge joined Haworth in double figures with 12 points.

Anderson, Davis, Kennedy Fleming were joined on the all-tournament team by Alcoa's Haworth, Ridge, Alexis Marshall, McKenzie Wilburn and Jataya Wilson.

The Lady Tornadoes won their fourth consecutive game, while the Lady Bulldogs had their four-game winning streak snapped.
