RED BOILING SPRINGS -- The Red Boiling Springs Junior High girls basketball team evened its record at 2-2 with a 24-16 victory over visiting Westmoreland on Monday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs gradually pulled away in the second half.

RBS led 8-6 after one period of play, 10-8 at halftime and 17-13 entering the fourth quarter.

Lady Bulldog point guard Claire Fleming scored seven of her game-high 14 points in the third quarter, and she made 5 of 9 free throws in the final period to help seal the win.

Bailey Massengille scored 5 points for RBS, and Graycee West and Brianna Thompson provided 3 and 2 points, respectively.

Bayleigh Norman and Anna Creasy led the Lady Eagles offensively with 8 and 7 points, respectively.

• The Bulldog boys squad suffered a 37-12 loss to Westmoreland.

RBS (0-4) trailed just 13-11 at halftime, but a fourth-quarter free throw from Brandon Rojo accounted for the team's only points in the second half.

The Bulldogs were down 7-6 entering the second period.

Louis Ramirez scored a team-high 5 points for RBS, backed by Rojo (3 points), Colton Copas (2) and Riley Thompson (2).

Landon Dennis and Kamryn Eden led the Eagles offensively with 10 and 8 points, respectively. Dennis scored eight of his points during the third quarter, helping Westmoreland extend its lead to 31-11 entering the final period.

The Bulldogs host Hartsville's Jim B. Satterfield Middle on Thursday.
