Macon County High junior guard Jamie Ashburn scored 6 points in the Tigerettes' 73-53 victory over Clay County.

CELINA -- The visiting Macon County High School girls basketball squad outscored Clay County by an 18-6 margin in the third quarter, pulling away en route to a 73-53 victory on Nov. 27.

The Tigerettes shot 60 percent from the field and forced 17 turnovers.

Macon County also made nine 3-pointers, shooting 45 percent from beyond the arc.

The Tigerettes trailed 15-13 after one period of play but surged out to a 31-27 lead by halftime.

Macon County took a 16-point advantage into the fourth quarter.

Tigerette junior guard Keeley Carter made 12 of 17 field-goal attempts, scoring a game-high 27 points. She also had 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Sophomore teammate Abby Shoulders connected on 5 of 7 field-goal attempts, providing 15 points to go along with 4 steals.

Macon County sophomore point guard Jalynn Gregory provided 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

The remaining scoring for the Tigerettes is as follows: McKaylee Mix 7 points, Jamie Ashburn 6, Graci Scott 2 and Marah King 2.

The Lady Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field and 70 percent at the free-throw line.

Senior Kenzie Arms led Celina offensively with 19 points, and classmate Taylor Strong provided 13 points.

• The Macon County boys shot just 23 percent from the field in their 70-34 loss at Clay County.

The Tigers trailed 16-10 after one period of play, 31-19 at halftime and 54-28 entering the fourth quarter.

Senior Trent Cook led Macon County offensively with 12 points, and classmate Cameron Welch provided 10 points.

The rest of the Tiger scoring includes: Ethan Jenkins 5 points, Kelton Ballou 3, Clay West 2, Brandon Jones 1 and Lake Reid 1.

Jake Ashlock led the Bulldogs offensively with 16 points and 7 rebounds, and senior teammate Gavin Silk provided 14 points and 6 rebounds.
