George Perry Deckard was born on Oct. 27, 1938, in Gamaliel, Ky., to the late Perry M. Deckard and Elizabeth Borden Deckard. He was one of four children born to this union .

George was of the Church of Christ belief. He married Artie Sue Driver on Dec. 27, 1978. George and Artie were blessed with almost 40 years together before her passing on Nov. 28, 2017.

Along with his parents and wife, George was also preceded in death by his brother, James Deckard.

He was a carpenter by trade. George helped build several houses in the area. He then went to work for Cooks Construction Company. In 2000, after 21 years with the company, George retired.

On May 30, at the age of 79, George was called to his eternal home. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

George is survived by: his sisters, Golda Turner and Geraldine Blankenship; step-daughters, Janis Gazzillo and Robin Bray; and step-son, William Bray. Several nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for George were conducted on June 1 at noon from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, with Jimmy Cook officiating. Interment followed in Compton Cemetery.
