Scenes of Westside’s Read Across America

March 5, 2014

Westside Elementary School celebrated Read Across America Week this week (Feb. 24-28). WSMV’s Snowbird kicked off RAA on Monday by visiting Westside’s students Pre-K through 2nd grade. On Wednesday, Jack McCall, a motivational humorist, visited Westside and shared stories and read a Dr. Seuss book to the students. On Thursday, MCHS Beta Students along with their sponsor Angie Shoulders and Kim Carnahan from Citizens Bank visited each classroom with a special reading activity and story.

On Friday, Westside opened its doors at 6:45 a.m. to welcome families to Breakfast with Books. Students and their families ate breakfast together, had photos taken together, and visited the Scholastic Book Fair. Westside also had a Book Character Costume contest, a Book Picture Contest, and bulletin board contest for teachers. The week was full of wonderful activities to encourage students to read. Westside would like to thank everyone involved in Read Across America this year.
