Red Boiling Springs High School Softball played three games this week—Clay County on March 12, Smith County on March 13, and Watertown on March 14. Clay County game was at home and the other two games were away. The Lady Bulldogs lost each of these games. Summaries as follows:

RBS vs. Clay Co. 3/12

This was the closest game, with RBS in the lead until the 5th inning. The score was 3-2 at the 1st and 2nd innings, tied at 5-5 in the 3rd. RBS climbed again in the 4th to 9-5, as Smith got a double, C. Murphy got a single, Sadler got a single, Lynch got a single and scored Smith, Coffelt ground out but scored Murphy, Jones got a single and scored Sadler, Hix got a single and scored Lynch, and West ground out.

In the 5th inning the Lady Dawgs lost their edge, as Clay had three singles and a double and scored 5 points in one inning. In the meantime, RBS’s Stephanie Reecer dislocated her right knee at bat and had to leave the game, and Smith and Murphy both ground out. The score held in the 6th inning at 9-10.

In the 7th inning, Clay scored a triple, a single, and two doubles for a total of 3 more points. For RBS, Hix got a single, then stole second and third. Whitney Ellingson, batting for an injured Stephanie Reecer, advanced to first on a dropped third strike and scored Hix. Smith got a single, but Ellingson got out at second. Murphy got a double, and Sadler grounded out to end the game.

Final score: RBS 10, Clay 13

RBS vs. Smith Co. 3/13

RBS did not score at all in this game, which ended after three innings because of the end of game for run rule.

Neither team scored in the 1st inning. Connor Murphy flyed out; Makenzie Sadler flyed out; Kalisha Lynch walked; Taylor Coffelt struck out; Shanna Jones walked; Makenzie Hix struck out. In the 2nd, RBS had similar success, as Kaitlyn Murphy struck out, Olivia Atkins struck out, and Hannah Smith grounded out. Unfortunately, Smith, used the inning to score 9 points.

In the 3rd inning, similar performance from RBS, and another great inning for Smith, ended the game on the run rule. Final score: RBS 0, Smith Co 15.

*non district game

*RBS pitcher Makenzie Sadler 1 strike out 6 walks

*RBS 0 runs, 0 hits, 4 errors

RBS vs. Watertown 3/14

In the final game, scoring was fairly low on the whole, but much more so for the Lady Dawgs, who only scored 1 point for the game, in the 5th inning.

Watertown made their greatest strides in the 3rd and 4th innings, when they made 4 points and then 3 points, respectively, after having scored nothing in the first two, like RBS.

In the 5th, RBS’s Smith struck out, C Murphy got a single, Sadler got a single but Murphy got out at second, and Lynch got a double off a centerfield error to score Sadler. Jones struck out. Neither team made another point in 6th or 7th, but this was enough for Watertown to gain the victory. Final score: RBS 1, Watertown 7.
