Prompt: Write an essay in which you give your opinion about requiring every student to learn to play a musical instrument. Use information from the passage, along with your own personal reasons, in your essay.

Instruments provide something soothing for the heart and soul. In past generations, instruments and music have been a very big part of our schools. However, many people have come to the conclusion that less and less students are learning to play instruments. What some students don’t know is that instruments and music can benefit their lives in many fantastic ways!

The musical world actually improves children brains. Not only does it get the brain working in new ways, but it also improves minor things in your brain like memory. Even though memory might not seem like a big part of your life, it can benefit you in incredible ways! There are even studies showing that kids who did take key-board lessons had more memory skills than those who didn’t.

Learning an instrument can even improve social skills. How is this you might ask. In schools, when you are learning an instrument, there is usually a band involved. In this band, you often find talented musicians who have the same passion you might hold for instruments and music. Over time, these peers could become some of your best friends. This is possible because the passion that you both share gives you the opportunity to open up in a way that you’d never thought you would.

There is also a wide variety of things kids improve on when they play an instrument. They can improve on their motor skills, which is skills that have to do with the child’s hands and fingers. Music’s notes that the kids learn make them more coordinated. Playing an instrument even contributes to math and comprehension. Students also have more organization when they play an instrument. This trait leads them to be all around more responsible.

In conclusion, music can improve a student’s life in many different areas. Instruments can turn a student’s frown upside-down as well as help them in their education Hopefully, numbers of students learning to play and instrument in school will increase over the upcoming years. ” I know knot what course others may take, but as for me, give me instruments or give me detention!”
