20 Years Ago

  • Jessica Danielle Meador was crowned Miss Red Boiling Springs High School during the annual Miss RBSHS Pageant.
  • Lady Bulldogs celebrate their first victory of MCHS since 1989, with the score being 56-41.
  • The American Red Cross’ Macon County Unit received a $%00 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation.
  • Lady Bulldogs won first round game in district 5A tourney against Hermitage Springs, with the score being 61-34.
  • Macon County basketball players were among mid-state’s best.
  • Five local weightlifters secured 1st place in Kentucky State Championship Powerlifting Meet. The team consisted of Anthony Gagliardi, Mark Shrum, Roger Long, Brian Woodard, Trudy Smith, Arlene Long, Jason East, and Derrick Dickens.
  • The NEC Phone was available for $29.95.
  • Red Boiling Springs FFA offers more classes due to the new block schedules.

  • Macon County encountered its fourth winter storm in four weeks, receiving 6 inches of snow.
  • Due to the winter storms, students attended school Saturday.
  • Walt Disney’s Pinocchio was being shown at the Lafayette Cinema.
  • The RBS Chess club placed 5th in the Tennessee Scholastic Chess Tournament in Memphis.
  • 8 packs of coke, diet coke, and sprite were $1.58 at Houcens Food Store.

February 1982

  • RBS 9th Grade tries out the trial proficiency test, preparing them for the State of Tennessee proficiency test.
  • The Dollar General Corporation opens the Dollar Store in RBS.
  • Carolyn C. Wilburn, Brenda Joyce Blankenship, Jane Allen Gregory, Jenetta Green West of Lafayette were included in an edition of Outstanding Young Women In America.
  • Little House on the Prairie, Walt Disney, and Friday the 13th was being shown on TV.
  • Tourist Trap by Irwin Yablans was shown at the Macon Drive-In.
  • Large grade A eggs were sold for 89 cents at Bill Martins.
