4-H Land Judging teams compete at Regional Contest

Ella Flynn competed in both the Clover Collection and Fun with Fashion on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Tennessee State Fair. Clover Collection and Fun with Fashion are both part of the Clothing and Textiles project offered through 4-H. Clover Collection is a sewing competition and Fun with Fashion is consumer economics. Ella placed 3rd out of six participants in the Clover Collection, and 2nd out of eight participants in Fun with Fashion.


Ella Flynn competed in both the Clover Collection and Fun with Fashion on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Tennessee State Fair. Clover Collection and Fun with Fashion are both part of the Clothing and Textiles project offered through 4-H. Clover Collection is a sewing competition and Fun with Fashion is consumer economics. Ella placed 3rd out of six participants in the Clover Collection, and 2nd out of eight participants in Fun with Fashion.


On Monday, September 12, 2016 (L-R): Mary Massey, Layla Amons, Kara Case, and Tia Rush competed in the LifeSkills Judging Contest at the Tennessee State Fair. This contest is a Family and Consumer Sciences program for junior high youth. Participants applied their knowledge in the areas of Money, Home, Health, Food and Family by visiting a series of activity centers and ranking items to meet the criteria of each scenario. Tia Rush placed 3rd individual out of 38 and Layla Amons placed 9th individual out of 38.


The Macon County 4-H Land Judging teams pictured above competed at the regional contest that took place at the Middle Tennessee Research & Education Center in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Macon County 4-H Senior High Team placed 4th and will advance to compete at the state contest on October 31st in Cookeville. The team consists of Zachary Goad, Amber Naramore, Woody Sullivan, and Luci Allen with a score of 830 points. The 1st place Junior High Team members were Delaney Turner, Byron Bartley, Layla Amons, and Leah Dyer with a score of 749 points. The 3rd place Junior High Team members were William Harp, Emma Stevens, Darrian Powell, Tamera Dyer, and Sarah Chandler with a score of 690 points. The team evaluated 4 areas on a variety of situations that included soil texture, depth, drainage, use for agricultural practices, and how well each area would be for a homesite. The possible points a participant can score is 400 points. Congratulations to all the teams and good luck to the senior high team at the state contest.
