VFW awards students for their patriotism


Kyra Chandler, pictured with Mickey Newsome and Quinn Marlow of the VFW, was honored at the breakfast for winning the Patriots Pen essay. Kyra won $50 for her essay with the topic “American, I Believe In…”


Moises Nunez, also pictured with Mickey Newsome and Quinn Marlow of the VFW, was also honored for winning the Voice of Democracy contest, in which he had to write an essay and send a recording of him speaking it. Moises won a $400 scholarship for his essay, which focused on his responsibilities to America.


Mickey Newsome, president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, says she would like to thank the committee, especially Barbara Oliver and Judy Chambers for coordinating the contests.
