The Macon County Sheriff’s Department has been working several theft cases over the past few days. After investigating these cases, items have been recovered and two arrests have been made.

One of the thefts occurred Jan. 10th, 2017 on Oakdale Road where a 2002 GMC pickup along with a 16 foot trailer, two chainsaws and a .22 rifle were taken.

Also on the 10th MCSO received a call from a resident on Wixtown Road, off of Oakdale Road, stating that someone had kicked in a door at their residence while they were inside the home. Nothing was taken from that residence.

On the 11th, there was a 16 foot trailer stolen from Johnson Road, which is also on the west side of Macon County.

Detective Donnie Crawford of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office stated, “While working on these cases we received information that one of the trailers that had been taken was thought to be at a residence on Sparrow Road. (We) went to the residence and identified the trailer as the one that had been stolen from Oakdale Road. We also recovered two stolen chain saws. While speaking with the person at the residence it was discovered that the items were purchased from a Misty Hewgley and Matthew Woodruff, and that the two subjects were in possession of another trailer. We located the subjects at a residence on Spring Creek Road. While there we located the 16 ft trailer that was stolen from Johnson Road along with a Jeep Wrangler. We had received information of a grey jeep that had been hauling the trailers. Upon running the tag and vin number of the jeep, it was discovered the jeep had been stolen in Ohio.

“We were able to connect the two subjects to the case on Wixtown Road due to witnesses seeing the Jeep Wrangler at that location.” While at the residence at Spring Creek Rd, detectives also discovered a crystal like substance, which was believed to be methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

According to the arresting affidavits the trailer that was taken from Oakdale Road was attached to a 2002 GMC pickup. The truck was found in a creek on Clifty Road.

Misty Dawn Hewgley, 36, of Lafayette, was arrested on 1/12 by Bohanan and charged with violation of probation, her court date for this charge is 2/6. She is also charged with three counts of theft of property, aggravated burglary, and possession of SCH.II. Court date for these charges will be on 1/25, with a $42,000 bond.

Matthew Ryan Woodruff, 31, of Lafayette, was arrested on 1/12 by Wilburn and charged with three counts of theft of property, aggravated burglary, and possession of SCH.II. Court date for these charges will be on 1/25, with a $49,000 bond.

The investigation is still ongoing.
