Macon County Legislative Body meets

The Legislative Body of Macon County met in regular session on Monday, January 23. Commissioner Jeff Hughes gave the invocation and Commissioner Troy Brawner led the pledge. Upon roll call, 18 members were present with Chris Wix and Bobby Ray King being the two absent members.

Motion was made to go into the Election of Notaries Public. Motion carried.

Nominations were as follows: Sherrill Roddy by Scott Gammons, Alecia Kempf by Helen Hesson, Alison Murphy by Shannon Wix, Ann Knight by Scott Gammons, Loretta McGuffey by Helen Hesson, Ashley Hansen by Helen Hesson, Pamela Steen by Shannon Wix, and Tammye Hewitt by Helen Hesson.

Motion was made that nominations cease and to elect those nominated for Notaries Public by acclimation. Motion carried.

Motion was made to approve minutes as presented from the 12/19/16 Legislative Body Meeting, 9/20/16 Planning Public Hearing, 10/18/16 Planning Commission Meeting, 11/15/16 Planning Commission Meeting, 11/29/16 Joint Economic and Community Development Meeting, and the 12/12/16 Audit Committee Meeting, and the 1/9/17 Committee of the Whole Meeting. Motion carried.

Motion was made to approve Budget Amendments #1-#8 (#1 Civil Defense, #2 EMS, #3 Sheriff’s Department, #4 Planning, #5 Solid Waste, #6 Health Department, #7 Other Charges, and #8 Sheriff’s Department-Comp Time). Motion carried on roll call 18-0.

Motion was made to allow Mayor Steve Jones to move forward with the repairs needed at the Valley Ridge building. Motion carried on roll call 18-0.

Motion was made to approve Resolution #1-83/2017, School Board Week. This is for School Board Appreciation Week. Motion carried.

Motion was made to allow Mayor Jones to appoint the Courthouse Security Committee which consists of county mayor, sheriff, district attorney, judge, and clerk appointed by the judge. Motion carried.

Motion was made to begin the budget process in February and bring back a schedule of the budget dates for approval. The General Purpose Schools will present a budget in June to the Budget Committee due to reports on BEP funding received in June. Motion carried.

Motion was made to have County Attorney Guy Holliman and Mayor Jones to start the process of gathering information on a Renters Tax to see if it would be feasible for Macon County. Motion carried.

Motion was made to accept the resignation of Sixth District County Commissioner Bryan Carter due to him changing his residence to another district. Motion carried.

Motion was made to allow Mayor Jones to begin advertising for the open position of Sixth District County Commissioner. The position is set to be voted on and filled by the County Commissioners by the March 20, 2017 County Commission Meeting. Motion carried.

Motion was made to elect Ken Witte as Mayor Pro-Tempore for the County Commission. Motion carried.

Motion was made to adjourn. Motion carried.

The February Committee of the Whole Meeting will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017. The February Legislative Body Meeting will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017. Both of these meetings will be held at 6:00pm at the Macon County Courthouse.
