Lafayette council holds meeting

The Lafayette City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, February 7. Councilman Jerry Wix gave the invocation and Mayor Richard Driver led the pledge. Upon roll call, five members were present with Councilwoman Pam Cothron being the only absentee.

In old business, a motion was made to approve the minutes of the January 3, 2017 Council Meeting. Motion carried.

In new business, motion was made to allow the Shriners to conduct their annual road block on Friday, May 5, from 3 pm to 6 pm, Saturday, May 6, from 8 am to 1 pm, and Sunday, May 7, from 8 am to 1 pm. Motion carried.

Motion was made to donate $1,000 to the Macon County Public Library for a new account and inventory system. Motion carried on roll call 5-0.

Motion was made to allow Mayor Driver to work with the proper persons to begin the process of transferring lots from the Lafayette Technology Campus Park to the Lafayette Industrial Development Board with an option of paying $25,000 down pending the closing with a potential buyer within 12 months. Also included in the motion was that the lots may not be subdivided within ten years. Motion carried on roll call 4-1, with Marcus Smith voting against the motion.

Motion was made to adopt Ordinance 698, rezoning the remaining R-1 Low Density Residential portion of the Lafayette United Methodist Church property that fronts Church Street to C-2 General Business District, on second and final reading. Motion carried on roll call 5-0.

Motion was made to adopt Ordinance 699, an ordinance amending the Sick Leave section of the Lafayette City Code, on second and final reading. Motion carried 5-0.

Motion was made to adopt Ordinance 700, an ordinance amending the Alcoholic Beverages section of the Lafayette Municipal Code to reflect recent changes made by the Tennessee State Legislature, on first reading. Motion carried on roll call 5-0.

Motion was made to adopt Resolution 02-07-2017A, a resolution of agreement to provide matching funds in the amount of $26,059.00 for the 2017 Macon County Community Development Block Grant application. Motion carried on roll call 5-0.

Motion was made to adopt Resolution 02-07-2017B, a resolution endorsing the appointment of Mayor Richard Driver for a term of six years as a member of the North Central Solid Waste Planning Board. Motion carried.

Motion was made to adopt Resolution 02-07-2017C, a resolution to allow Mayor Driver to apply for a 50/50 matching fund Clean Energy grant in the amount of $50,000 to $250,000 for the Lafayette Police Department for window and lighting upgrades. Motion carried.

Motion was made to advertise and receive bids for a five year airport property hay contract. Motion carried.

Motion was made to advertise and receive for paving selected city streets for fiscal year 2017/18. Motion carried.

Motion was made to advertise, take applications, and interview for pool manager and lifeguards for the 2017 pool season. Motion carried.

Motion was made to approve the hiring of Kyle Reid to fill the vacancy of garbage truck driver created by Steve Dellaquilla, level six pay at $13.05 per hour. Motion carried.

Motion was made to approve the transfer of Ethan Mungle from Water Treatment Plant Trainee to Gas Department Service Person I, level six pay at $13.34 per hour. Motion carried.

Motion was made to advertise for applications for a Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee to fill vacancy created by Ethan Mungle. Motion carried.

Motion was made to approve the hiring of Logan Horn as part time dispatcher at Lafayette Police Department, level five pay at $11.95 per hour, to fill the vacancy created by Elliot Sandifer. Motion carried.

Motion was made to approve the transfer of Kipp West from part time dispatcher at Lafayette Police Department to part time fireman at Lafayette Fire Department, at the same salary. Motion carried.

Motion was made to advertise for applications for a part time dispatcher at Lafayette Police Department to fill the vacancy created by Kipp West. Motion carried.

Motion was made to adjourn. Motion carried.

The March Lafayette City Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 7, at 7 pm in the Council Chambers at Lafayette City Hall.
