Macon County had 12 4-H members exhibit 25 market hogs at the State Junior Market Hog Show held January 17-18 in Murfreesboro. There were 546 hogs exhibited by 305 4-H and FFA members state wide.
4-H members exhibit their hogs in weight classes, showmanship classes, carcass ultrasound class, as well as skillathon competition. Skillathon tests the members’ knowledge in breeds, meat identification, equipment, feeds, and quality assurance. Showmanship is based upon the individual’s ability to handle & show their hog. A Premier Exhibitor Award is given, which is a combination of the exhibitor’s showmanship score, skillathon score and the placing of the market hog in weight class.
