County Mayor recognizes MCHS athletic programs

On Monday, April 17, 2017, Macon County Mayor Steve Jones presented the Macon County high school boys basketball team, girls basketball team, boys golf team, girls golf team, and the Macon County high school cheerleaders all with proclamations honoring their accomplishments. The boys basketball team has achieved championship status during the 2016/2017 season by becoming the undefeated district 8 AA champions; region 4 AA champions; sub state champions, and competing in the TSSAA division 1-AA state tournament held at The Murphy center in Murfreesboro TN. The boys basketball team is under the direction of head coach Jason Welch, assistant coach Adam Bandy, and assistant coach Brandon Mahaney.

The girls basketball team has achieved championship status during the 2016/2017 season by placing second in the district 8 AA regular season; region 4-AA runner-up; sub state champions, and competing in the TSSAA division 1-AA state tournament held at the Murphy center in Murfreesboro TN.

The Macon county girls basketball team is under the direction of head coach Larry White, assistant coach Laycee Coulter, and assistant coach Courtney Cherry.

The Macon County high school cheerleading squad has achieved championship status during the 2016/2017 cheerleading season by participating in the universal cheerleaders association national competition and by receiving 9th place in the medium co-ed game day division held in Orlando FL.

The cheerleading squad is under the direction of head cheerleading coach Jayda Law and existent Coach Sarah Beth Law.

The Macon county boys golf team has achieved championship status during the 2016/2017 season by becoming the district 8 A-AA Champions; region for A-AA champions; in by finishing 4th place in the TSS AA division 1A-AA state championship held at the Willow Brook golf course in Manchester, Tennessee under the direction of head coach Beverly Shoulders and assistant coach Rick Shoulders.

The Macon County girls golf team was recognized as having achieved championship status during the 2016-2017 season by becoming the district 8A-AA champions; region 4 A- AA runner-up under the direction of head coach Beverly Shoulders and assistant coach Rick shoulders.

The legislative body of Macon county recognized and honored all of these athletic teams for their successful season and also for representing their school and the county of Macon by displaying outstanding sportsmanship, character, and integrity.
