A Lafayette couple was arrested last week on child abuse and drug charges.

According to court records, on Friday, April 21, 33-year-old Michael F. Johnson and 31-year-old Wendy L. Whitehouse of Lafayette were arrested on multiple charges.

Records show that Whitehouse’s daughter was photographed at Lafayette Elementary School by the school nurse and guidance counselor to document bruising on both her arms. One of the marks on the child’s arm was bruised in the shape of a belt buckle. Also, the child had bruising on the left side of her jaw from some type of object.

According to the report, the victim said that her mother had done this because the mother’s boyfriend “had blew marijuana smoke in her face.”

Whitehouse was charged with aggravated child abuse.

Whitehouse was detained by the Macon County Sheriff’s Department and police searched her vehicle after a canine officer indicated that drugs were inside the vehicle. Upon the search of the vehicle, marijuana was found in a coin purse and two smoking pipes were found in her purse as well as two pill bottles on the floor of the car. Some pills were also inside Whitehouse’s bra and she offered them before she was taken into booking for processing. In addition to aggravated child abuse, she was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a schedule II drug.

Johnson was also detained by the Macon County Sheriff’s Department. He was driving the car and found to be in possession of a revoked driver’s license after he was pulled over. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a schedule II drug after marijuana, two smoking pipes and two pill bottles were found inside the vehicle.

Whitehouse’s bond was set at $12,500. She bonded out the following day on April 22. She is due to be in court on May 10. Johnson’s bond was set at $13,500. His court date is also set for May 10.
