Rollover accident leads to arrest

Last Thursday, October 6, 2016 at approximately 3 p.m., according to the accident report, a black four door sedan was traveling East on Highway 52, near the Macon County Justice Center, when the driver, Melissa Key of Lafayette, ran off of the roadway, traveled approximately 100 yards, struck a culvert, went airborn landing in a ditch and rolling over.

After being cleared by EMS, Key was unable to successfully perform various field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. According to the arresting affidavit, while Cpl. Jeff Hix of the LDP was searching the vehicle for the registration he found a small container of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

Melissa Jane Key, 42, 7011 Hwy 52 E, Lafayette, was arrested on 10/6 by Hix and charged with driving under influence, violation of implied consent law, possession of SCH.II, and possession of SCH.VI. Her court date is set for Nov. 16, 2016 with a bond of $4,000.
