Sumner Regional Medical Center and the Macon County Board of Education began partnering to offer sports medicine coverage to the student-athletes in Macon County in 2012. BodyGuard Sports Medicine partners with many area schools to provide sports medicine services and a full-time Certified Athletic Trainers. Carrie Calhoun serves Macon County High School and Rachel Hester serves Red Boiling Springs High School. This community outreach endeavor allows coaches, student athletes and their parents/guardians the benefit of having a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) available at the school, athletic practices, and on the sidelines during games along with direct access to outstanding emergency, diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitation services close to home. Through these partnerships, the Athletic Trainers have become an integral part of the teams and culture of each participating school.
In 2011, BodyGuard Sports Medicine began offering concussion management as one of the sports medicine services offered to area schools. BodyGuard provides free baseline concussion testing to all high school contact student-athletes in Sumner, Macon and Trousdale counties at no charge to the athletes’ families. They also provides sports medicine support to various community athletic and recreational programs and events throughout the year.
