The MCHS Tigerettes Soccer Team began its regular season with a 6-2 win against the Falcons of Monroe County (KY) on Monday, August 18th. The match is the most complete game that the Tigerettes have put together since their home opener against Jackson County a year ago. The team is still young consisting of mostly freshmen and sophomores and a handful of juniors and seniors. The match started with some very good passing and movement by Macon County’s strikers (Lora Darnell and Bailey Porter) that was complemented nicely by the midfield players (Jacy Russell, Alexus Sarmiento, Sarah Morgan, and Sara Satterfield.)
The Tigerettes scored the first goal of the game on a planned set piece during a corner kick by Lora Darnell. Bailey Porter finished the play with a nice shot past the keeper and into the net. The game was down hill from there for Macon County. The starting defense for Macon County (Emilie Harris, Brittany McClard, Casey Martin, and Kaylee Bean) along with freshman goalkeeper, Katrina Carey, held Monroe County scoreless for most of the first half. Alexus Sarmiento provided Macon County with its second goal on a beautiful shot just inside the penalty box. Bailey Porter and Alexus Sarmiento each scored 2 goals in the first half to make the score 4-1 at halftime. In the second half, Lora Darnell found her opportunity to score and took advantage of it, and near the end of the match Sarah Morgan made a beautiful dribbling run through the Falcon defense to cap off a great night for the Tigerettes.
