Macon County Mayor Shelvy Linville signed a resolution last week that partners the county with the U.S. Census Bureau in an effort to acquire data from county residents for the 2010 Census.

Linville held a meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the courthouse to begin the formation of Macon County’s Complete Count Committee (CCC), which assists the Census Bureau with the collection of census data locally.

The meeting was led by Cameron Parrish and Mark Johnson, partnership specialists with the U.S. Census Bureau. Also present at the meeting were Brian Long, City of Red Boiling Springs; Steve Jones, Macon County E-911; Randall Swaffer, Lafayette Broadcasting; Don Stevens, City of Lafayette; Charles W. Biles, Macon Co. Schools; and Tammy Russell, County Mayor’s Office.

According to Parrish, areas that formed CCCs collected data more successfully during the 2000 Census than those that did not.

Residents should begin receiving Census forms in February and March of next year. They will be due on April 1.

The next CCC meeting will be held on January 12 at 2 p.m. at the courthouse.
