Besides his parents Marion and Minnie Cothron, he was preceded in death by his wife Shelby Jean Cothron; son Harold Dean Cothron; daughter Deloris Jean Mosley; stepson James Ray Ford; two brothers Bobby and Danny Cothron; two sisters Frances Wade and Deborah Raney.
He is survived by son Dorris Cothron, Jr.; four daughters Sarah Cothron, Sherry Cothron, and Joyce (James Daniel) Cravens, all of Lafayette, and Michelle (Patrick) Wix of Westmoreland; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother Ray (Tommie) Cothron of Arab, Ala.; three sisters, Roberta (Harold) Woodard of Hartsville, Rosemary (Miles) Gregory of Hartsville, and Darlene Hall of Smithville.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home at noon, Saturday, November 12, 2011 and were conducted by Bro. Landy Presley.
Honorary pallbearers: James D. Cravens Jr. and Jamie Lynn.
Active pallbearers: Gary Mosley, Patrick Wix, Caleb Wix, Allen Mosley, Jesse Cothron and Jacob Cothron.
Interment followed in the Hartsville Cemetery.
