Jr. Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs beat out Merroll Hyde

The Red Boiling Springs Jr. High Lady Bulldogs closed out their regular season last Thursday against a persistent Merrol Hyde team. Thanks to a strong first and fourth quarters by Red Boiling, the Lady Bulldogs would win their season finale 35-18. A strong defense propelled the Lady Dawgs to a victory.

The first quarter started out fantastic for Red Boiling. The Lady Dawgs came out and dominated Merrol Hyde early. The Lady Dawgs scored an unprecedented sixteen points in the first quarter, all while holding Merrol Hyde to six points! However, the second quarter got slow for both teams, as both Merrol Hyde and Red Boiling only scored two points each in the second quarter. The score at halftime was 18-8 Lady Dawgs.

The second half started out slow for the Lady Dawgs. They scored only four points in the third quarter, and it looked as if Merrol Hyde would make a comeback. However, the Lady Dawgs scored thirteen points in the fourth quarter and put Merrol Hyde away 35-18.

Abby Tuck had three points, two steals, and three turnovers. Bailey Tucker had two points, two rebounds, and a turnover. Grayce Crouch had three points and three rebounds. Shaylee Ellingson had eight points, three rebounds, a three pointer, two steals, and two turnovers. Cayley Tuck had six points, three rebounds, an assist, two turnovers, and an unreal five steals. Lauren Henson led the team in scoring with 13 points. Henson also had three rebounds and she went 3-5 from beyond the arc.

After the girls’ game, the boys went to work against a very talented Merrol Hyde boys team. Merrol Hyde played a very good game, but the Bulldogs would ultimately win 45-39. Great offense propelled the Bulldogs to a victory.

The first quarter was an offensive explosion by both teams. Merrol Hyde came out and scored fourteen points, but Red Boiling kept up with them and scored twelve. Both teams slowed downed in the second quarter, as Red Boiling scored seven points, and Merrol Hyde scored six. The score at halftime was 20-19 Merrol Hyde.

The second half was all Red Boiling. The third quarter was a very strong quarter for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs scored fifteen points in the third quarter, all while holding Merrol Hyde to eight. The score after three quarters was RBSJH 34, Merrol Hyde 29. In the fourth quarter, both teams scored eleven points. Merrol Hyde tried to play catch-up from downtown, but they couldn’t get the three ball to fall. The Bulldogs went on to win 45-39.

Elijah Byfield scored fourteen points in this game, which led the Bulldogs. Byfield had a three in this game and went 5-7 from the field. He also had three steals. But he didn’t win this game alone. C. Long had thirteen points, a steal, and a three. Justin Bergdoff had two points. B. Anderson had two points as well. The Tirjan brothers scored a combined fourteen points (Josh with nine, Matthew with five). Josh also had two offensive rebounds and two steals.
