Macon woman turns 100

Anna Beulah Lawrence Jenkins was born to Annie Bertha Crowder Lawrence and John Wesley Lawrence in the Haysville community of Macon County TN on March 15, 1913. She was the fifth child of ten that included 3 sisters and 6 brothers. She married Golden Jenkins of the Macon County Webb Town community on April 22, 1932. That union produced four children. The eldest, Betty June Watson Freeman, resided in Macon County until her death in 1995. Living children include Wanda Sue Shrum of Macon County, Ralph Lawrence Jenkins of Allen County KY, and Johnny Franklin Jenkins of Limestone County AL.

Anna Beulah dedicated her life to raising her children and caring for their offspring. Many of her descendents continue to live in Macon and surrounding counties. Others have spread throughout the south and to Nevada, Hawaii, and Switzerland. As of her 100th birthday she boasts 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

More recently Anna Beulah enjoins playing games such as Skip Bo, Tri-Ominos, and Sequence. She also exercises her mind with puzzles such as Word Find and jig saw pictures. A visit from any one of her many offspring and friends is always a highlight.

Many descendents of Anna Beulah’s siblings continue to live in Macon County TN and Allen County KY. Her siblings who resided in Macon County were Aubrey Lawrence, Ira Lawrence, Louie Lawrence, Euretta Lawrence Frasier Donohoe, and Ezra Lawrence. Brothers Ray Lawrence Lived in Allen County KY and Buell Lawrence lived in Houston TX. Sisters Lera Lawrence O’Hara lived in Rhode Island and Mary Lawrence McCormick Bennett lived in Nashville TN. Beulah is the only surviving sibling.

With the care of three wonderful ladies (Rita Tuck, Betsy Propes , and Joyce Phillips ) under the guidance and extra care of daughter Wanda Shrum, Anna Beulah continues to live in her west side Macon County home.
