A man was arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder on Saturday night after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend in the back.

Officer Matt Looper, of the Lafayette Police Department, was dispatched to 201 Walton Ave. and the corner of Courthouse View on Saturday evening, February 2nd around 6:30-7:00 p.m.

When Officer Looper arrived he found Louise Ward, the victim, who was stabbed at least three times in the back. An eyewitness stated that Jason Summers, who was also there at the scene, had been fighting with Louise and stabbed her in the back with a knife.

There were two other witnesses who had fled the scene. It appeared that everyone had been drinking.

The paramedics arrived and began to treat Louise of her injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt Medical Center, then released from the hospital later that same evening.

Officer Looper arrested Anthony Jason Summers and charged him with one count of attempted 2nd degree murder. Summers is being held for a February 20 court date.
