The Macon County Sheriff Department uncovered an operating still on Tuesday. Detective Darrell Taylor and Deputies Kyle Petty and Anthony Warner worked the case.

“They said it had been operating for six weeks,” said Det. Taylor. “But we’ll see. No arrests have been made yet.”

Six gallons of liquor were taken along with the still paraphernalia, as well as two partial quarts and some of the “mash” used to make the liquor.

Mash is a starchy mixture from which grain alcohol is distilled.

Officers could not release more information on the case as it stands. The last time a still was discovered by law enforcement in Macon County was in the year 2000.
