Weather permitting, TVA has informed Tri-County Electric that they will interrupt power to their Lafayette Primary Substation beginning at midnight on Saturday night, April 28th. The outage will affect the majority of Macon County (excluding the western portion of the county) and the Hermitage Springs area in Clay County.

Almost exactly one year after one of the two transformers failed, leaving many Macon Countians without power for approximately 7 hours, the new transformer has arrived and will be installed at the substation along with isolating/switching equipment requested by Tri-County Electric.

“The failure of the transformer last April was an unfortunate incident for Macon County and Tri-County Electric” stated Paul Thompson, TCEMC Executive Vice President and General Manager. “At our request, TVA brought in the mobile transformer in the event the remaining transformer had problems, they installed monitoring equipment to monitor the substation weekly and they are installing the switching equipment that we requested. We believe the action items will serve our member-owners well should any incident occur in the future.”

TVA expects to have power restored to all areas by 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning, April 29, 2007.

On behalf of TVA, Tri-County Electric apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this interruption of power.
