A 28-foot trailer behind Daisy Dukes Dance Hall in Lafayette burned to the ground on Monday night. Dance hall proprietor Randy Green, who owned the trailer, estimates the damage at $15,000.
He believes the fire was started deliberately, and is offering a $500 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.
Fire Chief Keith Scruggs said the cause of the fire is unknown: “It’s kind of a suspicious fire, but it’s under investigation. ‘Course, we don’t have any leads on it right now.”
“I don’t know if it was kids or what,” said Green, “but somebody got me, and I didn’t have insurance at all on it.
“I think it’s somebody that got mad because they got run off [from Daisy Dukes]. I’ve run off probably forty people before, that come out there and act stupid—just mean. I don’t put up with nothing, because we want a family place, a nice place. We try to do everything right.”
Green said the trailer itself was a $7,000 value, and it was full of tools and supplies for his business. “I had carpet pads in there, insulation… I do fire and water damage repair for three or four companies.” A smaller trailer sitting next to the large one caught fire as well, but was pulled out of the way and sustained minimum damage.
The Lafayette Fire Department received the call at midnight, and was on the scene till 1:30 AM. Fourteen firemen were involved.
