This week an 18-year-old male, 20-year-old female, and 39-year-old female were arrested with multiple drug charges after a routine traffic stop for a missing headlight.
RBS police officer Jesse Gentry stopped the vehicle just after noon on 12/12/12 to inform them of a headlight that was out on the passenger side of the car. He said that when he approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and began talking to driver Ben Bolte, he saw a glass pipe laying in the back seat in plain view. This kind of pipe is typically used to ingest methamphetamine.
He called the Sheriff’s Department for assistance with searching the vehicle and occupants, who were asked to exit the vehicle and empty their pockets.
“There were several components used to manufacture meth found in the vehicle,” said RBS Police Chief Terry Tuck. “Coleman fuel, coffee filters, plastic tubing, cold packs, lithium batteries, and things of this nature.”
In addition, there was a small bag of marijuana in a jacket pocket inside the vehicle, a blue prescription bottle found in the front seat with pills inside which field tested positive for meth, and in Ms. Smitty’s possession, a metal container with several different types of pills. Tuck said that the vehicle also contained at least two loaded syringes, as well as some empty ones.
All three of the occupants were taken to the Justice Center, and at that time, Ms. Smitty was found to have several more pills that appeared to be hydrocodone on her person, as well as a bag of white powder that appeared to be methamphetamine. This meant an additional charge for introducing drugs into a county institution.
Ben Allen Bolte, 18, of 4023 Oak Grove Road, Red Boiling Springs, charged with one count possession of drug paraphernalia, one count possession of Schedule VI drug, one count promotion of methamphetamine, one count intent to manufacture methamphetamine and one count possession of Schedule II drug. His bond was set at $31,000.
Lauren Nicole Nelson, 20, of 411 Whitley Hollow Road, Red Boiling Springs, was charged with one count promotion of methamphetamine, one count intent to manufacture methamphetamine, one count possession of Schedule II drug, one count possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count possession of Schedule VI drug. Her bond is also set at $31,000.
Sheila Gail Smitty, 39, of 162 Henry Circle, Red Boiling Springs, was charged with one count of promotion of methamphetamine, one count of intent to manufacture methamphetamine, one count of possession of Schedule II drug, one count of possession of Schedule IV drug, one count of introduction of drugs into county institution, one count of possession of Schedule VI drug, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of legend drugs: sell, give, obtain. Her bond was set at $34,000.
All three of them will be in General Sessions court on January 16, 2013.
Chief Tuck mentioned that the vehicle was seized, along with cell phones and cash money from the three suspects. “There will be a hearing later on if they choose to try to obtain their things back,” said Tuck.
