The top 10 students in MCHS’s 2013 graduating class were released this week:

1. Taylor “McKenzie” Sullivan, daughter of Chris and Angie Sullivan. GPA: 4.64

Activities, honors, and awards: Valedictorian, Lady of the Blue and White, UCA All-American, 2011 and 2012 TSSAA State Cheer Champions, 2013 TSSAA State Sportsmanship Award, Will Hall Sullivan Senior Award, Martha Wilburn Award, FCCLA 1st place Interior Design, Perfect attendance for 4 years, over 400 hours of community service work. MCHS cheerleading team (4 yrs), MCHS cheer captain; Interact Club (3 yrs); District 6780 Interact Representative; Beta Club (4 yrs); Beta Secretary; Student Council (4 yrs); class officer (4 yrs); Freshman V.P. , Junior Treasurer; Senior Secretary; FCCLA (4 yrs), FBLA (2 yrs); Drama Club (1 yr)

Future Plans: My future plans are to attend Tennessee Tech University and major in biochemistry. After four years at tech, I plan on going to medical school and becoming a pediatrician. Then, I would like to work at a pediatrician’s office in Lafayette or at Vanderbilt’s Children Hospital. Eventually, I would like to open my own practice.

2. Rebecca Leigh Ballou, daughter of Chris and Denise Ballou. GPA: 4.625

Activities, honors, and awards: President of the Interact Club, recipient of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, National Beta Club member, Fellowship of Christian Athletes member, Macon County High School soccer team member, District 10 A/AA All-Tournament Soccer team as a senior, MCHS softball team member, Honorable Mention to the All-District 9AA Softball Team as a sophomore, Tennessee Scholar, Class of 2013 “most likely to succeed” and Salutatorian.

Future Plans: In the future, I plan to further my education at Tennessee Tech University studying in the field of pre-occupational therapy. I will then attend an occupational therapy school and graduate with a Masters degree. After becoming a certified occupational therapist, I will return to Lafayette to work and live.

3. Cassidy Claire Baugn, daughter of Scott and Delanie Baughn. GPA: 4.5652

Beta Club (VP), Drama Club, Volleyball All-Distric (Soph., Jr., Sr.), Volleyball All-Region (Sr.), MCHS Volleyball MVP, “Dorothy” in MCHS 2012 production of Wizard of Oz, “Peter” in MCHS 2013 production of Peter Pan.

Future plans: After high school, I will attend Middle Tennessee State University. I am going ot major in nursing and minor in Spanish and Dance. Since I was in 6th grade, I have wanted to be an E.R. nurse. I also plan to teach/choreograph dance for musicals. More than anything, however, I want to raise a big family and travel the world.

4. Alyssa Suzanne Tuck, daughter William and Angela Tuck. GPA: 4.5

Activities, honors, and awards: 4 years of softball, 3 years of basketball, 3 years of Beta Club, Homecoming attendant (Sophomore and Senior year).

Future plans: I plan to attend Tennessee Tech University. I plan to major in Secondary Education. I want to continue to try and serve the Lord each day. And, I hope to have a family someday.

5. Kailyn Josie Brooks, daughter of Tony and Tracy Brooks. GPA: 4.4783

Activities, honors, and awards: Played basketball for 4 years, Interact club-3 years, Student Council-2 years, Softball 1 year, Graduating with honors.

Future plans: I plan on attending Bethel University where I will continue my basketball career. I plan on majoring in education.

6. Madisen Laurel Towns, daughter of Royce and Dawn Towns. GPS: 4.4727

Activities, honors and awards: FFA: Chapter President, Received State Degree, one of 30 TN FFA Scholarship Recipients; FCCLA: Chapter First Vice-President; Member of Beta Club; Macon County 4-H; MCHS Homecoming Queen; TN Tech. University – W. Clyde Hyder Agriculture Scholarship Recipient.

Future plans: After graduation, I will begin working toward a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with a concentration in Animal Science at Tennessee Technological University.

7. Emily Kay Chaffin, daughter of Darrell and Carolyn Chaffin. GPA: 4.463

Activities, honors, and awards: Beta Club member- 3 yrs; FCCLA member- 4 yrs.

Future plans: After high school, I plan on getting my real estate license and working as an agent at one of the local agency. Then, I plan on going to Volunteer State Community College to study business. I want to one day own my own real estate company and become a broker.

8. Brandon Neal Fleming, son of Ricky and Sherry Fleming. GPA: 4.46

Future plans: I am going to attend Volunteer State Community College, then I will transfer to Tennessee Technological University. I will major in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.

9. Winston Edward Sandifer, son of Chuck and Sherri Sandifer. GPA: 4.46

Activities, honors, and awards: Eagle Scout Award, Soccer team captain, Interact, Beta Club.

Future plans: My future plans are to start college in the fall at TTU majoring in Civil Engineering. After earning my degree I want to return to Macon County and start a career.

10. Nick Dale Welker, son of Joe and Suzanne Welker. GPA: 4.38

Activities: Beta Club

Future plans: I am going to attend Tennessee Technological University. While there, I will study to be a Computer Engineer. After college, I plan to be an I.T. for a big company.
