It’s almost time. September 8th is this very Saturday, and it’s bringing the 19th Annual Makin Macon Fit Family Fitness Festival with it.

The festival will be held at Macon County Junior High School, located at 1003 Highway 52 Bypass East, Lafayette. This event, supported completely by local volunteers, is designed to benefit Macon County schools, teachers, and the community.

Because of the great help given by volunteers, organizers are able to take the money raised and donate it directly to local education programs. One of the goals of Makin’ Macon Fit is to promote wellness.

The registration forms for all events can be picked up at any Macon County School, The Macon County Welcome Center/Chamber and Macon County General Hospital.

Events for the day include a 5K, 3-mile Walk, 1-Mile Walk, three different bike tours (10 mile, 33 mile, and 66 mile), and Kids events, including a fun run, obstacle course, bouncy houses, and bike rodeo. There are also door prizes to be given away, including bicycles, helmets and other items donated by several organizations. The prize drawings take place at approximately 11 a.m.

The Macon County school with the most participants is awarded $500. Also, this year, $300 will be awarded to the school with the second-highest number of participants. Other proceeds help fund the scholarship and support Lafayette Rotary and Interact Club community projects.

Before the start of the 2013 Red Boiling Springs commencement, the graduating seniors took a moment to gather around a special memorial at Red Boiling Springs High School to say a prayer for a fellow classmate. This memorial at RBSHS is a tree that was planted in the memory of Brandon Tidwell. Brandon would have been a 2013 graduate of RBSHS but his life was tragically cut short, at age 15, in an accidental shooting on June 7, 2010.
