Macon County voted characteristically to the right on Tuesday and in early voting, with final percentages falling to the Republicans by 70%-80% across the board.

Romney-Ryan received 5,259, or 76.06%, of the total votes (1,827 Election Day votes), and Obama-Biden received 1,552, or 22.45%, of the total votes (600 EL votes). In the US Senate race, Bob Corker was the clear Macon winner, with 4,853 total votes, or 78.62%, giving Democrat Mark Clayton 1,050 total votes, or 17.01%.

Republican Diane Black won the US House of Reps (6th Cong Dist) vote in Macon, with 4,801 total votes, or 81.06%, leaving third party candidates Pat Riley and Scott Beasley with 443 (7.48%) and 667 (11.26%) votes, respectively.

The TN House of Reps 38th Rep Dist. Election was the closest race in for Macon, but gave Republican Kelly Keisling the victory with 4,221 or 70.49% of the total votes, leaving David Harper with 1,761 or 29.41 of votes.

Total voter turnout at the early voting and Election Day polls was 6,945, or 51.89% of registered voters.

Tennessee voters turned out in droves, and supporting Mitt Romney, on the whole, in typical red-state fashion. A total of 1,456,824 (about 1.45 million) Tennesseans had already cast early votes, representing the second-highest early voting turnout in TN history.

At press time, Obama’s win as the Re-elected President of the United States had been called, as a projected win in swing state Ohio pushed him over the top of the required 270 electoral votes.

The Macon County Times will continue to update Election news as it comes.
