A Red Boiling Springs man was arrested on Wednesday for theft of property over $10,000 after allegedly driving away from his place of work in a company truck.
Arresting officer Michael Veatch said that on May 8, 2013, Dustin Kellum showed up to work at Performance Feeds in Macon County and was told he could not work. Kellum took a 2004 one ton crew cab dodge truck and left work in it without the consent of the owner. Deputy Pam Whitlow began the initial investigation and found the truck off the roadway on Green Valley Road. It had been wrecked and abandoned.
“We were trying to get an officer in Clay County to go to his address and pick him up,” said Veatch. “When a State Trooper from Clay County went to the address, he found Kellum passed out in his wife’s car. Kellum was under the influence of alcohol at the time he was taken into custody.” Dustin still had the keys on his person for the Performance Feeds truck. The value of the truck is about $15,000 dollars.
Dustin O’Neil Kellum was arrested on May 8 and charged with one count of theft of property over 10,000. His court date is scheduled for May 22. Bond was set at $15,000.
