Dozens of Lions Club members and other volunteers gathered for three nights at Citizen Bank’s main branch last week to work their 16th annual benefit Radio Auction. The event raised $12,585 at final count, which will go to support the Lions Club’s ongoing charitable efforts.

All items auctioned were donated by locals and local businesses in a true community effort, and the auction itself was conducted via radio waves and phone lines. The auction was broadcast on WLCT. 102.1 FM, and bids were made by calling into the temporary call center that was set up at Citizens Bank and manned by about half a dozen volunteers.

Another network of volunteers sat at tables with the auctioneers to take bids and call them out to those manning the boards, which displayed all items on the block at a given time. Still another group worked to file the items as they were sold, so that they could be catalogued and picked up later on.

Anyone who hasn’t picked up their items at this time should see Chris Phillips at the Macon Bank & Trust.
