With the Macon County Tigers out of action this week, all of Macon County’s attention was on the game between the Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs and the Watertown Tigers (what a coincidence). Red Boiling and Watertown both came into this game undefeated, so everyone knew someone would leave with the painstaking loss. Unfortuneately, it was the Bulldogs who suffered defeat by a score of 34-22.
You could feel the air tightening around the stadium as the entire crowd was looking forward for this game to kickoff. Watertown got the ball first and showed why they are still undefeated. #24 for Watertown ran in a 46 yard TD early in the first quarter. Then it was Red Boiling’s turn to show why they are undefeated. A.J. Dale ran in a 70 yard touchdown and the Bulldogs missed the extra point, and it was 6-6. Watertown would, however, run in another TD, this time from 61 yards out. This time when Watertown went for the two point conversion, they lined up in a formation unfamiliar to the Bulldogs. The Tigers took advantage of it quickly, converting the two points to make it 14-6. The Bulldogs ran in another TD and a two point conversion and made it 14-14 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, defense was a little tighter. A.J. Dale would run in another TD for RBS and make it 20-14 Bulldogs! However, Watertown would score two more times and made it 28-20 going into halftime.
After a dry third quarter (no points scored by either teams), the game went into the fourth with the Bulldogs still having a little hope. However, that hope was shattered as Watertown picked up a RBS fumble and scored. That made the score 34-20, and it wouldn’t change after that.
After the game, Coach Kyle Shoulders said he was proud of his Bulldogs. He said that we do need some improvements, but we did a great job of shutting down Watertown’s QB, who is the #4 QB in the Mid-State! On Friday, September 14, Red Boiling Springs will take on big time rival Clay County. The Bulldog’s stadium will be rocking again! Everyone who goes is encouraged to participate in the “Red Out” the Bulldogs are having, which means if you have red, wear it!
