A Dodge pickup truck that was reported stolen last Monday was recovered later in the week, after a physical altercation involving a law enforcement officer, and a brief manhunt.
“It started on July 21,” said Detective Darrell Taylor. “We had warrants for Chad Carter for domestic violence. Sergeant Brawner went to serve the warrants and he evaded arrest, out on Twins lane. Later that evening, Tyler West reported a truck stolen. It was a 2006 Dodge. So we put the word out for everyone to look for the truck.
“On Monday the 23rd, we got a call from a citizen that they’d seen the truck at A&K Trailer in Red Boiling. So Kimball Hall went over there, and saw the truck, and went over to see what was going on. Chad Carter came out of the house just then and jumped in the passenger side. Kimball and he had an altercation; he was trying keeping him out of the truck.
“Kimball opened the driver door and had a hold of him and tried to flip him out of the truck, and he did get the ignition cut off, stopped, but they kept wrestling around, and he did get the truck started up and started to back up, so when he got it started he started backing up, and the door was open so it knocked Kimball down and hit him in the back of the head. Then he took off.
“Everybody here at the department was searching the area real good. We thought he’d headed into Jackson County, so we notified the Jackson Sheriff. A farmer in Jackson County saw the truck parked in a wooded area in the weeds, and he called the sheriff in Jackson County and the sheriff and some deputies went down there and walked up on the truck and Carter was asleep in the backseat. So he was taken into custody and the truck was returned to the owner.”
Carter’s list of charges includes vandalism, domestic violence, evading arrest, resisting arrest, theft of property, burglary, driving on revoked/suspended license, and aggravated assault.
