MCHS FCCLA holds final meeting of year On May 7th, Macon County High School FCCLA met for their final meeting of the 2012-2013 school year. At this meeting we discussed our fundraisers and National Leadership Conference on July 7th through 11th. We then had our annual ice cream sudae celebration honoring our outgoing seniors. We also installed our 2013-2014 officers.
‘Barnyard’ 4-H fundraiser held in Lafayette Macon County 4-H held a fundraiser event on Saturday at Tractor Supply Company in Lafayette, featuring concessions and a variety of animals see, pet, and play with. The animal exhibit was provided by Martha Williston and family.
Students complete clinicals at The Palace The students in the nursing assistant class at Tri-County Vocational School completed their clinical training last week at The Palace Care and Rehab. Mural dedication held on the square The Macon County Arts Council held a dedication for the new mural hung on the side of Kathy’s Florist on the square Monday. Present were various community leaders, members of MCAC, and the students who helped artist Linda Johnson with the mural itself.
Truck Pull raises over $6,000 The 2013 KTPA Terry “Jackhammer” Driver Truck Pull, sponsored by the Lafayette Fire Department, was held on Saturday, May 11 after a rained out Friday.
This was the 9th annual pull, which funds a memorial scholarship administered by the Fire Dept. This year, it raised between $6,000-$8,000.

Kyson Lee Spivey born Janie Sparks and Marcus Spivey would like to announce the birth of their son, Kyson Lee Spivey. Kyson was born on April 23, 2013 weighing 8 lbs, 6.3 oz and measuring 21 1/4 inches. Welcoming Kyson is his little brother, Kurtis Dylan Sparks, and proud grandmother Joyce Ann Brawn.
Married 60 Years Wilson O. Crook of Hartsville and Bonnie Helen Green Crook of Lafayette, married at the courthouse in Lafayette in 1953, celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 6, 2013. Wilson and Bonnie now live in Indianapolis, Indiana with their 4 children, Pam, Steve, Kim and Lisa. One daughter, Debbie, was called home by the Lord. They have 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. God has certainly blessed this marriage and family.
MCGH hosts Van Loo’s for Relay Van Loo’s Traveling Boutique was at Macon County General Hospital on Tuesday, May 7th . Proceeds from the boutique sale were donated to Macon County General Hospital – Relay for Life Team.
Gose named Financial Literacy Teacher of the Year The Financial Literacy Teacher of the Year Award is presented to a Tennessee teacher, at any level, for outstanding contributions to economic education. This year’s winner was Tammy Gose who teaches at Macon County High School in Lafayette, TN.
She was nominated by Brandon Woodard, assistant cashier with Macon Bank and Trust Company, who is in the classroom with Gose four times each school year helping students learn financial literacy.
Janet Hiland: on losing a daughter When Christy Hiland died in a four-wheeler accident on April 21, she left two little boys behind. Her sons Damion, age 3, and Hunter, 1 1/2, have been placed with their respective fathers.

Director of Macon County Public Library System retires Julia Burrow, who has served as the Director for the Macon County Public Library System for over eighteen years, recently announced her retirement.
