MCHS Tigers stay undefeated

On Tuesday, December 6, the 4-0 Macon County High School Tiger basketball team was seeking to keep their undefeated season alive by taking on District opponent Livingston Academy at home. The Tigers did just that by claiming a 60-36 victory over the Wildcats. Individual scores were Seth Carlisle 17, Michael Ashburn 9, Riley Phillips 8, Dalton Marsh 6, Cameron Welch 6, Kendrick Carter 5, Trent Cook 4, Heston King 3, and Matt Young 2.

The Tigerettes also kept their undefeated season alive by claiming a 52-47 victory over the Wildcats. Individual scores were Mattie Goolsby 15, Keeley Carter 13, Jenna Russell 10, Kyndal Bullington 9, Jamie Ashburn 2, Morgan Carter 2, and McKaylee Mix 1.

On Friday, December 9, the Tigers travelled to District opponent Smith County for their matchup with the Owls. The Tigers claimed a 81-67 victory over the Owls to advance to 6-0. Individual scores were Michael Ashburn 26, Seth Carlisle 22, Riley Phillips 17, Cameron Welch 6, Kendrick Carter 5, Cole Carnahan 3, and Dalton Marsh 2.

Despite the win by the Tigers, the Tigerettes came up short, losing to the Lady Owls 40-49, ending their undefeated run. Individual scores were Keeley Carter 21, Kyndal Bullington 9, Mattie Goolsby 4, Jenna Russell 3, and McKaylee Mix 3.

On Saturday, December 10, the Tigers travelled to Westmoreland for their non-district matchup with the Eagles. The Tigers claimed another victory by defeating the Eagles 67-39. Individual scores included Michael Ashburn 12, Seth Carlisle 11, Riley Phillips 11, Kendrick Carter 10, Heston King 9, Cole Carnahan 5, Dalton Marsh 3, Cameron Welch 3, Trent Cook 2, and Kelton Ballou 1.

However, the Tigerettes didn’t get so lucky with the Lady Eagles. The Tigerettes were defeated by a score of 30-44. Individual scores were Keeley Carter 14, Kyndal Bullington 6, Luci Allen 5, Morgan Carter 3, and McKaylee Mix 2.

The Tigers now have an overall record of 7-0, with a District record of 3-0. The Tigers are currently ranked first in District 8AA and ranked #3 statewide in Class AA by CoachT. The Tigerettes now have an overall record of 5-2, with a district record of 2-1. The Tigerettes are ranked third in District 8AA, behind DeKalb County and Upperman.

The Tigers next home game will be Friday, December 16, against Clay County. Game tips off at 6:00pm.
