The Macon County High School Tiger and Tigerette basketball teams resumed their normal schedule after the Christmas break by travelling to Clay County on Tuesday, January 3. Not only did the Tigerettes defeat the Lady Bulldogs for the third time this season, but the Tigers also refused to be beat a third time by the very strong, fifth ranked Bulldog team.
The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs by a final score of 77-70. Individual scores were Michael Ashburn 23, Seth Carlisle 15, Riley Phillips 9, Cole Carnahan 9, Heston King 8, Cameron Welch 8, Kelton Ballou 3, and Dalton Marsh 2.
The Tigerettes defeated the Lady Bulldogs by a final score of 58-50. Individual scores were Jamie Ashburn 12, Jenna Russell 11, Morgan Carter 8, McKaylee Mix 8, Keeley Carter 7, Mattie Goolsby 6, Kyndal Bullington 4, and Luci Allen 2.
The Tigers also defeated the Eagles of Westmoreland 64-52 on Saturday, January 7 at home. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, January 6, but was postponed until Saturday due to inclement weather. Individual scores were Michael Ashburn 26, Seth Carlisle 13, Heston King 8, Dalton Marsh 8, Cameron Welch 8, and Riley Phillips 1.
However, the Tigerettes fell to the Lady Eagles 42-58. Individual scores were Keeley Carter 20, Kyndal Bullington 10, McKaylee Mix 4, Jenna Russell 3, Luci Allen 3, and Mattie Goolsby 2.
The Tigers now have an overall record of 13-4, and rank first in the district with a 4-0 district record. The Tigerettes now also have an overall record of 13-4, with a district record of 3-1. Upcoming games include district opponent Cannon County on Tuesday, January 10 at home; at district opponent Upperman on Friday, January 13; district opponent DeKalb County on Tuesday, January 17 at home; and at district opponent York Institute on Friday, January 20. All games are set to tip off at 6:00pm.
