Macon Co. scores over Cannon Co.

On Tuesday, January 10, the Macon County High School Tiger basketball team picked up their fifth district win of the season at home against Cannon County. The Tigers defeated the Lions 87-48. Individual scores were Michael Ashburn 12, Heston King 12, Seth Carlisle 10, Riley Phillips 9, Cameron Welch 9, Cole Carnahan 8, Kendrick Carter 8, Dalton Marsh 6, Spencer Hogin 5, Clay West 4, Trent Cook 2, and Matt Young 2. During this game, Seth Carlisle scored his 1,000th career point. Michael Ashburn also scored his 1,000th career point earlier in the season.

The Tigerettes also defeated the Lady Lions by a score of 59-53. Individual scores were Keeley Carter 27, Jenna Russell 15, Mattie Goolsby 5, McKaylee Mix 5, Kyndal Bullington 4, and Jamie Ashburn 3.

On Friday, January 13, the Tigers picked up another District win on the road over Upperman. The Tigers claimed a one point victory over the Bees, 48-47, to keep their perfect District record alive. Individual scores were Michael Ashburn 14, Cameron Welch 11, Kendrick Carter 10, Seth Carlisle 9, Heston King 2, and Riley Phillips 2.

However, the Tigerettes suffered a 32-71 loss to the #1 ranked Lady Bees. Individual scores were Keeley Carter 8, Jenna Russell 6, Morgan Carter 6, Kyndal Bullington 5, Luci Allen 5, and Landra Stafford 2.

The Tigers now have an overall record of 15-4, with a district record of 6-0. They are currently ranked first in District 8AA, and are ranked #9 in Class AA statewide. The Tigerettes have an overall record of 14-5, with a district record of 4-2. They are ranked second in the district, behind Upperman, and are ranked #13 in Class AA statewide.

Upcoming games: Tuesday, January 17, at home against DeKalb County; Friday, January 20, at York Institute; Tuesday, January 24, at Livingston Academy; and Friday, January 27, at home against Smith County. All games are set to tip off at 6:00pm.
