The MCJH Girls’ Basketball Team began the TNT tournament on February 4 with a tough win against Lebanon’s Winfree Bryant Basketball Team. At the half, MCJH was behind 17-10, but they came back in the third quarter to lead Winfree Bryant 22-20. They finally got things going in the fourth and final quarter winning 36 to 28. Scoring for MCJH Team that night were Emily Ashburn 4, Jalynn Gregory 10, Kyndal Ludick 9, Abby Shoulders 11 and Taylor Ward 2.
This past Saturday night the Macon County Junior High Girls’ Basketball Team returned to Springfield for the final competition. They successfully ended their season with an easy win over Springfield with a score of 56-9. This victory gave them the title of TNT Class 4A State Tournament Champions. Even though the high school basketball teams were playing in Cookeville that very night, there was still a great crowd from Macon County to support the junior high girls’ basketball team in this win.
The starting five for the junior high included Emily Ashburn, Jalynn Gregory, Kyndal Ludick, Abby Shoulders and Taylor Ward all five starters are eighth graders for the team. The game began with Kyndal Ludick making the first basket of the night for the junior high girls. At the end of the first quarter, the score was MCJH 21 and Springfield 4. The second quarter began with Kacie Ray and Cadence Carter entering the game for our junior high team. By the end of the second quarter, MCJH led with a score of 31 to 6. There was some excitement during the half time as the entire gymnasium was evacuated due to the sounding of the fire alarm. This false alarm was quickly taken care of and the third quarter began. The second half of the game continued much the same way as the game began, and it ended with MCJH girls winning the final game of the tournament. Scoring for the team were Emily Ashburn 1, Jalynn Gregory 16, Kyndal Ludick 13, Kacie Ray 2, Abby Shoulders 15 and Taylor Ward 9.
Head Coach Courtney Cherry received the Class 4-A Coach’s Trophy. Those making the all-tournament team from MCJH were Kyndal Ludick, Jalynn Gregory and Abby Shoulders with Emily Ashburn and Taylor Ward receiving honorable mention.
The Macon County Junior High Girls’ Basketball Team ends their season with a record of 16 wins and 3 losses. All three losses for the season were to Baxter Junior High. The team and coaches appreciate the support of the cheerleaders, parents, family and friends during this successful and exciting season.
