MCHS Tigers beat the Blue Devils

On Friday, September 9, the Macon County High School Tiger football team travelled to Jackson County for their matchup with the Blue Devils. The Tigers claimed their third victory of the season in a back and forth battle.

In the first quarter, three interceptions occurred within minutes of one another, two for the Tigers by Chris Oliver and Tyler Swindle and one for the Blue Devils. Midway through the quarter, Seth Carlisle capitalized on the interception by Swindle by running the ball into the endzone for the first of many touchdowns by Carlisle. The extra point attempt by Joey Medrano was good, making the score 7-0. The Blue Devils answered back by scoring a touchdown and extra point of their own during the last minute of the quarter, making the score 7-7.

Within the first ten seconds of the second quarter, Carlisle ran the ball in for another touchdown, accompanied by another extra point by Medrano, making the score 14-7. Seconds later, Dylan Butler recovered a fumble by the Blue Devils to give the ball back to the Tigers. The Tigers drove the ball downfield for Carlisle to run it into the endzone again for another touchdown and extra point by Medrano, making the score 21-7. Shortly thereafter, the Blue Devils scored another touchdown, but their extra point attempt was no good, making the score 21-13 at halftime.

Once again, Seth Carlisle was able to get past the Blue Devil defense and run into the endzone to score his fourth touchdown of the night accompanied by another extra point by Medrano, making the score 28-13. Minutes later, the Blue Devils were forced into the wrong endzone, giving the Tigers a safety, making the score 30-13. However, the Blue Devils made up for their mistake by scoring another touchdown and extra point, making the score 30-20. Seconds later, Carlisle scored yet another touchdown, but the extra point attempt was no good, making the score 36-20. After, that Jackson County scored another touchdown and a two point conversion, making the score 36-28. In the last couple minutes of the quarter, Braxton Crawford scored another touchdown for the Tigers, but the two point conversion attempt was no good, making the score 42-28.

In the fourth quarter of the game, the battle between the two teams continued. Jackson County scored a touchdown and extra point first, making the score 42-35. The Tigers answered right back when Crawford ran in another touchdown accompanied by an extra point by Medrano, making the score 49-35. The Blue Devils then struck again with another touchdown and extra point, making the score 49-42. With 4:53 remaining in the game, Marshall Avera caught an interception. Carlisle then capitalized on his interception by running the ball in for another touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good, making the score 55-42. On the next Blue Devil possession, Seth Carlisle intercepted the ball and ran it in for his seventh and final touchdown for the night. The extra point attempt was good, making the final score 62-42 with the Tigers claiming victory.

Quarterback Seth Carlisle caught the attention of The Tennessean by getting recognized on their Top Offensive Performers List from Week 4. Carlisle scored 42 points alone for the Tigers.

The Tigers are now have an overall record of 3-1. The Tigers will travel to Maplewood, a region opponent, on Friday, September 16. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
