On Friday, September 23, the Macon County High School Tiger football team claimed victory over DeKalb County in the 2016 Homecoming game. Before the game, a moment of silence was held to honor former coach Pat Dyer who passed away on September 17. Macon County won the toss and elected to receive, giving them the first possession of the game.
Within the first minute of the first quarter, Michael Tirjan carried the ball 67 yards for a Tiger touchdown. The extra point attempt by Joey Medrano was good, making the score 7-0. DeKalb County answered back just a short time later with a touchdown and extra point of their own, tying the score at 7. However, just seconds later, Seth Carlisle carried the ball 65 yards for another Tiger touchdown. The extra point attempt by Medrano was good, making the score 14-7. Three plays later, Braxton Crawford intercepted a pass from DeKalb County. The interception ultimately led to another Tiger touchdown by Taylor McQuery followed by an extra point by Medrano. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 21-7 Macon County.
In the second quarter, Carlisle ran the ball into the endzone for the fourth touchdown of the night. The extra point attempt by Medrano was good, making the score 28-7 with 9:13 left in the second quarter. However, DeKalb County answered back with another touchdown of their own followed by an extra point, making the score 28-14. With seconds remaining in the quarter, Carlisle scored the team’s fifth and his third touchdown of the night. The extra point attempt by Medrano was good, making the score 35-14, Macon County, at halftime.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, as both teams forced the opposing team to punt the football away on each possession.
Less than two minutes into the fourth quarter, Tanner Cleary scored another touchdown for the Tigers. The extra point attempt was no good, making the score 41-14. Midway through the quarter, DeKalb answered back with another touchdown of their own. Their extra point attempt was also no good, making the final score 41-20, Macon County.
The Tigers now have an overall record of 4-2, and a Region record of 0-2. The Tigers will travel to White House on Friday, September 30, for a Region game against White House High School. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
