The Macon County High School Tiger football team travelled to White House High School for their Region matchup with the Blue Devils. Before the game began, White House paid tribute to the late Tigers’ Coach Pat Dyer by giving a short biography of Dyer’s life and observing a moment of silence. The Tigers won the toss and elected to receive, giving them the first possession of the game.
In the first quarter, it was a battle of the defenses, forcing punt after punt for both teams. Neither team scored in the first quarter.
The second quarter wasn’t much different, until midway through the quarter the Blue Devils got past the Tiger defense and scored a touchdown. Their extra point attempt was good, making the score 0-7 Blue Devils, which was the score going into halftime.
Minutes into the third quarter, quarterback Seth Carlisle ran the ball into the endzone for the first Tiger touchdown of the night. The extra point attempt by Joey Medrano was good, tying the score at 7. Less than three minutes later, Michael Tirjan snuck past the Blue Devil defense and scored another touchdown for the Tigers. The extra point attempt was no good, giving the Tigers the lead 13-7. At the very end of the quarter, the Tigers recovered a fumble by the Blue Devils, giving the Tigers the ball at midfield heading into the fourth quarter.
Ten seconds into the fourth quarter, Tirjan scored his second touchdown of the night. The two point conversion attempt by Carlisle was good, making the score 21-7 Tigers. Just a couple of minutes later, the Tigers recovered another fumble by the Blue Devils. Shortly thereafter, Tirjan ran the ball in for another Tiger touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good, extending the Tigers’ lead 27-7. A short time later, White House answered back to 27 unanswered points with a touchdown of their own. Their extra point attempt was good, making the final score 27-14 Tigers.
The Tigers now have an overall record of 5-2, with a Region record of 1-2. The Tigers have their bye week this week, meaning no game will be played on Friday, October 7. The Tigers will travel to Springfield High School on Friday, October 14, for a Region game with the Yellow Jackets. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
