The Macon County High School Tiger football team travelled to Springfield High School for their Region matchup with the Yellowjackets on Friday, October 14. Before the game started, Springfield won the coin toss and elected to receive, giving them the first possession of the game. This game was a very low scoring game, only 19 total points were scored between the two teams.

There wasn’t much action in the first half until six seconds into the second quarter when Michael Tirjan ran the ball into the endzone for a Tiger touchdown. The extra point attempt by Joey Medrano was good, making the score 7-0 Tigers. Shortly after the Tiger touchdown, Springfield answered back with a field goal attempt after the Tiger defense kept them away from the end zone. Their field goal attempt was good, making the score 7-3 Tigers, which was the score going into halftime.

In the second half, the Yellowjackets forced the Tigers to a field goal in the third quarter. Joey Medrano’s field goal attempt was good, making the score 10-3 Tigers with 3:19 left in the third quarter. In the last minute of the game, the Yellowjackets scored a touchdown, making the score 10-9 Tigers. With the game on the line, the Yellowjackets elected to attempt a two point conversion. Their conversion attempt was no good, keeping the score 10-9 Tigers with 43 seconds left in the game. The Tigers claimed victory over the Yellowjackets 10-9.

The win gave the Tigers the third place ranking in the Region. The Tigers will advance to round one of the TSSAA State Football Playoffs to be played on Friday, November 4. More details concerning that contest will be announced in the coming weeks when the regular season concludes. The Tigers are now 6-2 overall with a Region record of 2-2.

The Tigers will host Meade County, Kentucky on Friday, October 21. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.
