The Macon County High School Tiger football team hosted the Panthers of Portland High School, a Region opponent, on Friday, October 28. Before the game, the senior football players, cheerleaders, and band members were recognized as part of the 2016 Senior Night ceremony. Before the game began, the Tigers won the coin toss and elected to defer to get the ball after halftime.

In the first half, there wasn’t much action in the first quarter, as the score was tied at zero at the end of the quarter. However, the Tigers scored a couple of touchdowns in the second quarter. The first touchdown came from Seth Carlisle followed by an extra point from Joey Medrano. With 7:29 left in the second quarter, the score was 7-0 Tigers. With less than two minutes left in the first half, Carlisle scored another touchdown for the Tigers. That touchdown was followed by a successful two point conversion pass from Carlisle to Tanner Cleary. With the two point conversion, the score was 15-0 going into halftime.

Seconds into the third quarter, Carlisle ran the ball in for his and the team’s third touchdown for the night. The extra point attempt by Medrano was good, making the score 22-0 Tigers. Midway through the quarter, Michael Tirjan score his first touchdown for the Tigers. The extra point attempt by Medrano was good, increasing the score to 29-0. However, seconds later, Portland scored their first touchdown to get them on the board. Their two point conversion attempt was no good, making the score 29-6, which was the score at the end of the quarter.

Once again, seconds into the fourth quarter, Tirjan scored another touchdown for the Tigers. The extra point attempt by Medrano was good, making the score 36-6. On the next Panther possession, a fumble was recovered by Adrian Alcorta, turning the ball back over to the Tigers. Tirjan capitalized on that turnover by scoring his third touchdown of the night. The extra point attempt by Medrano was good, making the score 43-6. With the 35 point mercy rule in effect, the clock continuously ran. However, a couple of minutes later the Panthers answered back with a touchdown. Their extra point attempt was no good, making the score 43-12, stopping the mercy rule. However, just 17 seconds later, Tirjan scored another Tiger touchdown. The extra point attempt by Medrano was no good, making the score 49-12, putting the mercy rule in effect once again. However, Portland scored one last touchdown for the night a couple of minutes later. Their two point conversion attempt was no good, making the score 49-18, stopping the mercy rule again. However, just 18 seconds later this time, Tirjan scored his fifth touchdown for the night, and eighth for the Tigers. The extra point attempt by Medrano was good, making the final score 56-18 with the Tigers claiming a victory over the Panthers.

At the end of the game, it was announced that quarterback Seth Carlisle had finished the regular season with 1,278 rushing yards. It was also announced that running back Michael Tirjan racked up an impressive 352 rushing yards during this game, and had accumulated over 1,400 rushing yards during the regular season.
