Traffic stop leads to wreck on Trammel Creek Road

By Kelly Rich

On Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at approximately 2:24 p.m. Tennessee Highway Patrol Sergeant Ashley Mercer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo that was traveling west on Epperson Springs Road, due to the driver not wearing his seat belt.

The driver refused to stop and continued westbound on Epperson Springs Road. Mercer lost sight of the vehicle when it negotiated a right hand curve onto Trammel Creek Road where it was traveling north. When Mercer got to Trammel Creek Road he continued northbound a short distance and advised dispatch that he had lost sight of the vehicle and that he was going to check and see if it ran off of the road. He turned around and traveled south and stopped near the intersection of George Akins road where he found that the vehicle had run off of the west side of the road, down a steep embankment, and came to rest in a creek facing north. The driver of the vehicle was seen fleeing the scene on foot.

Two passengers were identified as Billy R. Clark Jr., 44, and Shelley K. Taylor, 52, both of Scottsville, KY. Clark was transported by ground to Sumner Regional Medical Center. Taylor was uninjured. The driver was identified as Othel F. Webster, 48, of Hopkinsville, KY.

Charges are pending.
