The Haunted Barn, located at 550 Green Grove Road, (Hwy 141) will open this Friday night, September 30, 2016 and will be open every Friday and Saturday night through the month of October.
Wyndom Wix stated, “This all started as a Halloween party for friends and family. When our kids were small there wasn’t a lot of people nearby who participated in trick or treating and we decided we would just have a Halloween party and take hay rides through the ‘haunted woods’ behind our house. That eventually led into a haunted maze. Then we began using the barn. Everybody thought we needed to open it to the public. So last year we decided to open it but all the proceeds had to be donated to a charity.”
Wyndom and Linda Wix and Anthony Barber came together and turned a Halloween party into a “Haunted Barn” and decided that all ticket, concession sales and all the donations would go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
This is the second year the Barn has been open to the public. Wyndom stated, “We have some good folks that volunteer to work in here, and they are really good at what they do.” There are approximately 26 volunteers that keep the tour running smoothly.
According to Wix several visitors stopped by last year that have been helped by the Wounded Warriors and just wanted to give back. Last year they raised just under $5,000. Wix commented, “We aren’t doing this for a profit, we do it for fun and to help others in the process.”
The Haunted Barn will be open rain or shine. Doors open at 7 p.m. The charge is $5 per person, and anyone active in the military is free. $5 includes a tour through the barn and a hayride to and from the parking area to the barn.
